Torchy's Tacos Celebrates Centennial Grand Opening in Austin

Beloved Texan cornerstone Torchy’s Tacos marked a major milestone this past winter, launching their 100th brick and mortar restaurant in Austin on December 20th, 2021. The new spot is located at 8601 South Congress Avenue in the heart of Austin’s bustling downtown district and is the 12th Torchy’s location to open in the capital city. The chain shows no signs of slowing down in the years ahead, with 100 brick and mortar locations across 11 U.S. states and plans to expand into Arizona, Florida, and Ohio later this year.

Known for blending casual fast-food convenience with high-quality product, the legacy of Torchy’s Tacos began 15 years ago, rising from humble beginnings as a simple food trailer serving experimental tacos. Fans of Torchy’s coined the food as being “damn good”, and the rest is history. Torchy’s lives by the “Damn Good” mantra, implementing high-quality ingredients from around the world to create unique, unforgettable flavors. Founder and CEO Mike Rypka elaborated on his gratitude and his hopes for the future of Torchy’s, stating:

“I’ve been reflecting back on when we first started Torchy’s in 2006, and it’s surreal that here we are, 15 years later, opening our 100th restaurant in Austin, right where it all began. While a lot has changed in terms of our size and scale over the years, our attention to detail, down-to-earth culture and Damn Good food are all the same as when I was slinging tacos in the original food trailer on South First. On behalf of the entire Torchy’s family, thank you to our loyal fans who have supported us since day one, and all those who have grabbed a seat at our table since. Make sure you come out to celebrate our 100th restaurant with some tacos and margs!”

Torchy’s flagship menu offers something for every meal, from all-day breakfast options like Migas made from cage-free eggs, tortilla strips, green chiles, avocado, pico de gallo and cheese, to mouthwatering side dishes such as street corn, freshly made salsa and Juan’s Refried Beans. Torchy’s keeps things fresh for returning visitors with their Taco of the Month: a rotating monthly promotion featuring experimental and exciting taco creations designed to keep fans guessing. A portion of the proceeds go each month to charitable partners in the Austin area, including Make-A-Wish, MD Anderson, and Phoenix House.

After enjoying a good meal, guests can unwind with freshly squeezed, hand-shaken margaritas and locally sourced brews at Torchy’s daily Happy Hour, running Monday through Friday from 3-6pm. Happy Hour drink specials include $1.50 off draft and bottled beers, $2 off the shop’s signature “Damn Good Drinks”, plus $3.50 off select drinks such as sangria or mimosas during the weekends.

As we continue to navigate a different sort of normal, the new Austin location is opening with the public’s safety at heart, implementing frequent cleaning sessions, staff wellness checks, proper use of gloves and sanitation equipment, and more. Contactless pickup and delivery options are available via Torchy’s mobile app, currently available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
