Best Burger Joints of Austin

For many, summer is burgers and a cold beer on a bright, sunny afternoon. If grilling isn’t quite your thing, Austin is full of high-quality burger joints that offer the best burgers in Austin Texas. Welcoming to satisfy your taste.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

Hopdoddy Burger Bar was founded in 2010 by four friends with a shared goal: to raise the bar for traditional burger stands. The restaurant’s name comes from the flower known as Hops, which are used to make beer, and “doddy”: a local nickname for the coveted Black Angus cattle. Burgers and beer are fittingly the staples of Hopdoddy. Menu items are handcrafted on site, using fresh ingredients derived from responsible, eco-friendly sources.

Options include the Buffalo Bill: free-range bison topped with blue cheese, steakhouse bacon, lettuce, tomato and buffalo sauce; or the Goodnight/Good Cause: a mouthwatering burger topped with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, jalapenos, caffeinated BBQ sauce, lettuce and tomatoes. A portion of the proceeds for each Goodnight/Good Cause burger is donated to local Austin charities for the benefit of the neighborhood.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar is located at 1400 South Congress Avenue, Suite A190 in Austin. The Bar is open seven days a week: 11 AM to 10 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11 AM to 11 PM Friday and Saturday.

Dan’s Hamburgers

Established in 1973 by Austin local Dan Junk, Dan’s Hamburgers is a much-beloved local institution. The joint was born of humble beginnings, leasing from a former root beer stand barely large enough for a kitchen, storage and a walk-up window.

Today, Dan’s Hamburgers spans five locations throughout the capital city. Following Dan’s passing in 1998, daughter Katie Congdon took on the role of owner, and all five locations remain in the family to this day.

Dan’s strives to offer a classic, simple and fresh menu, filled with delicious hamburgers as well as breakfast and lunch items. Dishes include Angus Beef hamburgers topped with mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and Hickory Sauce, along with other burger stand classics such as crispy fries and chicken tenders.

Dan’s Hamburgers is located at 5602 North Lamar Blvd in Austin. Hours are 6 AM to 10 PM Monday through Saturday, and 6 AM to 6 PM on Sundays.

Downtown Burgers

Downtown Burgers began with a simple mobile food truck, which has been a staple of the Austin area for more than a decade. The business quickly grew to accommodate two additional locations, all serving specialty burgers cooked fresh on the daily, made with local beef.

Burgers include the Hawaiian: a quarter-pound burger with American cheese, ham, grilled pineapple, pickle, jalapeno, lettuce and condiments. Vegetarian options are also available, such as the “gardenburger patty” made from brown rice, mushrooms, onions, oats and mozzarella.

Downtown Burgers features a patio with live music, and is dog-friendly. They are located at 503 East Cesar Chavez Street in Austin and are open seven days a week, 11 AM to 3 PM.
