Austin’s Best Ice Cream Parlours

With Memorial Day fast approaching, summer will soon be upon us. If you need a way to beat the fierce Austin heat, look no further than today’s list, featuring seven of the area’s best ice cream parlours.

DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya

DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya is a kiosk-based ice cream parlour featuring Japanese-style treats made with milk produced in local, Hill Country dairies. Guests can enjoy chilly treats on their own, or inside of housemade, hand-dipped mochiko waffle cones made from special mochi flour.

Unique menu items include savory ice creams such as the “Shroom of Doom”: caramel chocolate shittake ice cream topped with sherry sauce, hazlenuts, fried parsnips and chocolate cacao. For something sweeter, try the Sum Yum Yuzu: Black Pepper-Yuzu mascarpone topped with meingue kisses, shiso leaf and berry preserve.

Cow Tipping Creamery

CLOSED

Cow Tipping Creamery began as a modest family-run ice cream truck, promising a unique twist on soft serve ice creams. The owners hold a fondness towards soft serve style, as it tends to evoke nostalgic childhood memories. At Cow Tipping Creamery, soft serve is spiced up with fun new flavor profiles and homemade toppings and baked items.

Indulge in the shop’s famous “stackers”: soft serve’s take on the traditional ice cream sundae. Try the “Lemon Drop”, featuring fresh lemon curd, honey dust, whipped cream and molasses graham crumbs. For chocolate lovers, “Death By Chocolate” features triple fudge brownie chunks, cocoa cookie crumbs, brown sugar hot fudge and semi sweet chocolate chips.

Dolce Neve Gelato

Dolce Neve is the spot in Austin for local and authentic Italian style gelato. Founder Francessa has trained amid the best gelato chefs of Italy, and placed sixth in the Sherbeth Festival: the world’s most notable gelato competition.

The shop’s name, Dolce Neve, is derived from the old English term for “Sweet Snow”, harkening back to gelato’s humble beginnings as mixtures of honey, fruit juice and fresh fallen snow. Guests can enjoy delectable gelato flavors such as chocolate and hazelnut, salted caramel, chocolate with candied orange peel, and organic cantaloupe sorbet.
